On the instructions of the Minister of Sports, sports goods to the value of Rs. 2.5 million was donated by the Ministry of Sports to Modern Pantathlon at the Sports Ministry.
Over 100 countries practice this sport which was an Olympic event in the past and it is known as Modern Pentathlon at present.
Twelve Sri Lankan athletes are in the world rankings.
The most notable performance by a Sri Lankan was Nuwan Kumara of the Sri Lanka Navy winning a gold medal at the South Asian Games in 2016.
The donation was made to popularise Modern Pentathlon islandwide which over 200 Sri Lankans involving in this sports discipline.
