Netball: Eva Trophy Championship in April

The first round matches of the Eva Trophy Netball championships will take place on April 2 and 3 at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Balika grounds, Colombo 7. 

The finals will be held at St. Joseph’s College Sports Complex, Maradana on April 9.    

The competition which is being held under eight divisions is being conducted by the Western Province Netball Association. 

Four divisions are for the inter-club competition and the other four are for schools.

Invited clubs will take part for the Eva Trophy and B Division clubs (WPNA). 

The events are Division C Under-15 (WPNA schools), Division D Under-17 (WPNA schools), Division E Under-19 (Schools invited by WPNA), Division F (WPNA International Schools) and the Over-35 and Mixed Division (3 boys and 4 girls in a team).

Entries will close on March 15 and participating teams have been informed to send in their applications before the due date.

A press conference took place at Torrington Place on Wednesday (24) where the President of the WPNA Alexi de Silva stated that the WPNA is one of the oldest netball associations in Sri Lanka and has completed 62 years. 

“The WPNA has produced top level netball players and has gone on to represent the country and had also produced top level netball coaches and umpires and has gone on gain positions in the Asian Federation and the world body,” said de Silva.

The tournament is sponsored by ICL. International Cosmetics (Pvt) Ltd. a member of the Capital Maharaja Organisation Ltd. 

They have been sponsoring this event for the past several years. This year they are spending Rs. Five Lakhs towards the competition.
