Sri Lanka suffered her second defeat at the 14th Netball World Cup 2015 at Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia on Saturday (8).   Playing the second match of Group C Sri Lanka suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Malawi by 101-18 goals in her 8th appearance in the World Cup.   The island nation’s lasses failed to stop the rampaging Malawian shooter and attackers and lost the first quarter 3 goals to 23.   In the second quarter Sri Lanka were behind 3-29.   Resuming after the half time in the 3rd and 4th quarters the Lankans faced the same fate as in the previous two sets to lose 5-22 and 7-27 respectively.   In the first match on Friday Sri Lanka’s dream of beating Singapore was shattered when the Asian Champions scored a 56-43 goals win at the Sydney Olympic Park.   The Lankan lasses started off well holding the Singaporeans to a 12-12 goal tie in the first quarter.   The Sri Lankans never allowed the Singaporeans to dominate and went down fighting to a 18-11 defeat in the second quarter and came back strongly to score a 11-9 lead in the third but failed in the fourth quarter and went down to a 9-17 defeat giving Singapore an overall victory.   Goal Shoot Nisala Algama was outstanding for Sri Lanka making 34 successful shoots out of 39. Sri Lanka in Pool C is grouped along with Malawi, South Africa and Singapore will meet South Africa on Monday (10).   The Lankans finished 14th at the last World Cup in Singapore in 2011 and had a successful outing in their maiden appearance to finish in 9th position in Birmingham, England in 1963.   Earlier in the preliminary round matches of Group C, Malawi beat South Africa 58-51 and South Africa beat Singapore 69-21.
