The Ceylon Tobacco Company (CTC) Women's team won the inaugural Mercantile Women’s Tag Rugby 7s Championship held concurrently with the 46th Mercantile Rugby 7s.
In the final, the CTC lasses beat Virtusa 5-0, 1 try, in a battle that went to the wire, to be crowned Queens of Mercantile Tag Rugby 7s.
The CTC women claimed their first victory in the tournament beating Office Network 15-0, with 3 tries.
Captained by Kushani Dassanayake, CTC included Melissa Jayawardene, Aqeelah Fowzie, Achini Wikramanayaka, Sachi Premaratne, Aneesah Fowzie, Nimesha Palliyaguru, Anupamali Perera, Harini Indiketiya, Harini Munasinghe and Dulari de Silva. The side was coached by Esala de Livera Tennekoon.
The 46th Mercantile 7s was held from July 15 to 17 at the CR&FC ground, and this was the first time a Women's Tag Rugby tournament was held concurrently with the main competition.
