Kandy Sports Club, possibly the most consistently successful Rugby Club in Sri Lanka will hold its 143rd Annual General Meeting at the Club Auditorium on Sunday (25), starting at 10.30am.
The present President, Nihal Ratwatte, who assumed office in sad circumstances, has done a good job. Accordingly, he is expected to serve another term.
The Ratwattes have been synonymous with the game of Rugby in Kandy.
Nihal, a former player himself, has ensured that the club runs smoothly.
Over the last two and a half decades, Kandy Sports Club has won every trophy that is on offer. The triple has not eluded them either.
Players such as Lakshman and Priyantha Ekanayake, Indrajith Bandaranaike, Nalaka Weerakkodi, Sanjeeva Jayasinghe and the late Sajith Mallikarachchi brought fame to the club by their exploits.
Presently, the club team is well-stocked with talent in the form of Fazil Marija, Gayan Weeraratne, Danushka Ranjan and Richard Dharmapala.
Whatever the combination, there is no sign that Kandy’s golden run is about to end.
