An effective five-wicket haul from allrounder Asela Gunaratne helped Kurunegala Warriors record a thrilling 31-run victory against Colombo Warriors in the eighth SLC Super Twenty20 Championship match played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo today (30).
Put into bat, the Warriors were restricted to 141 runs but the Commandos were given a rude shock when spinner Gunaratne struck a hat-trick on his way to collect five wickets, as they were skittled out for 110 runs.
For Warriors, Chamara Kapugedara top scored with 34 off 25 deliveries with a four and a six while opener Upul Tharanga hit 28 off 24 balls with four boundaries and a six.
Paceman Shaminda Eranga claimed four wickets and skipper Milinda Siriwardana took three.
The Commandos were not given the room to cruise as Gunaratne claimed his best bowling figures in Twenty20 cricket by claiming 5 for 10 in three overs.
Janith Silva picked two wickets.
