Sri Lanka’s swimming sensation Matthew Abeysinghe has been awarded a scholarship by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and World Aquatic Sports Association (WASA) according to reports.
Matthew’s scholarship is worth US $ 10,000 and he earned this accolade after winning seven gold medals at the recently concluded South Asian Games in Guwahati, India.
The scholarship will cover Matthew’s training, sports equipment, coach's allowances, vitamins and nourishment according to reports.
A Sri Lankan man was apprehended at Suvarnabhumi airport for attempting to smuggle wildlife out of the country after three ball pythons were found hidden in his underwear, the Bangkok post reported.
