The 44th Annual Schools All Island Age Group Aquatic Championship 2017 organised and conducted by the Schools Aquatic Sports Association (SASA) will be held at the Sugathadasa Swimming Complex from June 29 to July 2, while the Diving events will be held from June 30 and July 1.
This 4-day competition will have 164 events which include 140 individual events and 24 relay events from Under (U)-9 to U-19.
This year, 82 Boys schools with 1,820 registered participants, 52 Girls schools with 1,108 registered participants and 46 Mixed schools will be in contention for top honours.
A special feature in this year's edition will be awards up to 3rd place for U-9, U-11 and U-13 age groups.
Nestle Milo will be the main sponsor for the 24th consecutive year, in partnership with the Ministry of Education.
The SASA has taken all necessary precautions in organising this mega event with trained lifeguards and ambulances standing by in case of emergencies.
The SASA had conducted programmes in the Ampara District to harness outstation talent, and intends to conduct such programmes in Anuradhapura and Jaffna Districts in the future.
St. Joseph's College, Colombo, Boys and Mahamaya Girls School, Kandy, won the championships last year and are expected to retain their titles this year.
