China and Sri Lanka entered into a Sports Exchange Programme enabling the sportsmen of both countries to take part in competitions organised domestically.
"With the visit of the Vice President China National corporation for Overseas Economic Cooperation Xie Lutao to Sri Lanka a new chapter had been opened for Sri Lankan Paddlers to enter into a Sports Exchange programme with China which will benefit Sri Lanka’s Table Tennis players of all age groups. It was proposed to start this programme by inviting the Chinese Mercantile Table Tennis team to a series of matches with Sri Lanka’s Mercantile firms," stated a media release issued by the Mercantile Badminton Association.
Further according to the press release; "Xie Lutao being himself an active table tennis player had been requested to send a table tennis team from his corporation to take part in table tennis matches with Sri Lankan mercantile firms and to start a reciprocal sport exchange programme between China and Sri Lanka."
