Fourth seed Medhira Samarasinghe beat top ranked Anika Seneviratne 2-1 to win the Under-18 Girls' Singles of the 101st Sri Lanka Junior Tennis National Championship played at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) courts in Greenpath on Thursday (11).
Samarasinghe lost the first set 3-6 but bounced back to clinch the two sets comfortably 6-2 and 6-1 to emerge victorious.
Samarasinghe (17) was more clinical than her schoolmate of Ladies' College, Seneviratne (14) despite standing low by three places in rankings.
Seneviratne third seed Janali Manamperi 6-4 and 7-6 while Samarasinghe stunned second seed Tara Grieg 6-0 and 6-0 in the semi-finals played on Wednesday (10).
