Rui Machado of Portugal emerged the singles champion of the first Sri Lanka Men’s Futures tennis tournament with an easy win over Jan Satral of Czech Republic in the final played at the Queen’s Club tennis courts in Colombo n Saturday (7). Machado lived up to his expectations as the top seed as he was too good for the fourth seeded Satral. The German pair of Daniel Altamaier and Tom Schoneberg emerged the doubles champion when the duo overcame the pair Jose Checah-Calvo (Spain)/ Rui Machado (Portugal) in the final. The tournament is conducted by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) with the blessings of the International Tennis Federation (ITF). This is the first of three back to back tournaments scheduled to be held with a prize money of $10,000 for each tournament being offered. The remaining two tournaments will be played at the SLTA tennis courts with the second tournament due to be played from February 9 to 15 and the third tournament from February 16 to 22.
