The eight teams to qualify to the cup quarter finals of the Under-18 Singer Schools Rugby 7s were found after the completion of the preliminary round matches on day one at the Royal Sport Complex grounds in Reid Avenue on Saturday (14). However St. Peter’s, the reigning champions, was unable to proceed as they were able to qualify only to the Bowl quarter-finals. The teams to qualify to the Cup quarters were last year runners-up Royal, Thurstan, Kingswood, Trinity, Wesley, S. Thomas’, Science and Isipathana. The teams to qualify to the Bowl quarters were St. Peter’s, Maliyadeva, CWW Kannangara MMV, Dharmaraja and Prince of Wales while Vidyartha received walkover. Meanwhile Royal Panadura along with Nugawela Central, Moratu MV and Lumbini MV advanced to the semi-finals of the Shield category. The quarter-finals of the Bowl and Cup categories will get underway from 8.30am onwards on Sunday (15). The scheduled Bowl quarter finals matches are St. Peter’s vs Maliyadeva, Piliyandala Central vs CWW Kannangara MMV and Dharmaraja vs Prince of Wales. The scheduled Cup quarter-finals matches are Thurstan vs Kingswood, Trinity vs Wesley, S. Thomas’ vs Science and Isipathana vs Royal. The semi-finals are scheduled to be played from 12.40pm starting with Shield category while the first of the four finals is scheduled to be worked off from 4.00pm followed the Cup final slotted to be played at 5.15pm.
