U-19 Cricket: Girls Schools Tournament enters final round

Sri Lanka Girls Schools Under-19 Cricket Tournament 2016 enters its final round with the pre quarter-final matches to be worked off from this weekend.

Organised and conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association in collaboration with Sri Lanka Cricket was participated by twenty six girl schools. 

Sixteen teams advanced to the pre quarter-finals stage as group leaders in their respective groups in the first round.

Anula Vidyalaya Nugegoda, Devapathiraja College, Rathgama, St Anthony’s Convent Kandy, Vijayabahu Madya Maha Vidyalaya Okkampitiya, Nugawela Central College, Visakha Vidyalaya Bandarawela, and Sri Siddhartha Madya Maha Vidyalaya Eppawela were joined by Gothami Balika Vidyalaya Colombo, Mahanama Madya Maha Vidyalaya Panadura, Theldeniya National School, Poramadulla Madya Maha Vidyalaya Rikillagaskadawela,, Ethiliwewa Maha Vidyalaya, Dutugamunu National School Buttala, Pindeniya National School Atale, Good Shepherd Convent Nuwara Eliya, and Holy Angles Balika Vidyalaya Kuliyapitiya to compete in the pre-quarters.

From the pre quarter-final stage onwards matches will be on a knock-out basis. 

Pre-quarter-final matches will be played from this weekend onwards up to January 24 at Dharmapala Vidyalaya Grounds and Campbell Park.

Apart from the six pre quarter final matches scheduled to be played during this long weekend the last two matches will be played at Campbell Place on January 23 morning Good Shepherd Convent Nuwara Eliya will meet Sri Siddhartha MMV Eppawela while in the evening Gothami Balika vs. Theldeniya National School fixture will decide the eight teams to play in the quarter-finals.

In a closely contested final last year at the Thurstan College Grounds Anula Vidyalaya defeated Devapathiraja College Ratgama to emerge champions. 

The Anulians will make every effort to be crowned as champions this year too while the lasses from Ratgama will make another attempt this year too to win the championship which slipped away at the last year’s finals.
