The Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA) has suspended three schoolboy cricketers, all Sri Lanka Under-19 players, from taking part in a number of its cricket tournament matches according to reports.
According to SLSCA sources the players identified are Richmond College players Wanindu Hasaranga and Charith Asalanka and Avishka Fernando of St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa, who were key players in the Sri Lanka Under-19s outfit.
The reason for the suspensions is known as violating the code of conduct in two separate quarter-final matches conducted by the SLSCA where confusion marred.
In the quarter-final match between Richmond College and S. Thomas’ College it was alleged that Richmond players have questioned a decision made by the umpire.
Accordingly the SLSCA has found Wanindu Hasaranga and Charith Asalanka guilty of breaching the code of conduct for players and will serve a two-match ban.
St. Sebastian’s opener Avishka Fernando has been found guilty of the same offence and will be suspended for five games for deliberately throwing the ball at a fielder while he was batting in their quarter-final against St. Servatius’ College.
