Sri Lanka Under-19s were trailing by 98 runs when stumps were drawn on the first day of the first Youth Test against South Africa Under-19s which began at the P. Sara Oval in Colombo today (23).
Electing to bat, South Africa U-19s were bowled out for 206 runs while Sri Lanka U-19s ended the day at 108-2.
Wicketkeeper/batsman Ricado Vasconcelos remained unbeaten on 78 after facing 95 deliveries and hitting nine fours and two sixes for the visitors.
Raynard van Tonder and skipper Wiaan Mulder hit 41 each but in contrasting fashion.
Tonder faced 43 deliveries and hit nine four during his knock Mulder faced 74 deliveries and hit five boundaries during their knocks.
Rashmika Dilshan picked three wickets while Thilan Prasan and P. Jayawickrama claimed two wickets each.
Opener Vishva Chathuranga was unbeaten on 59 off 98 deliveries when play ended on the first day.
He also hit eight fours while sharing an unbeaten 63-run stand for the third wicket with Sammu Ashan, who remained unbeaten on 31 off 76 balls and five fours.
The match ends on Saturday (25).
