U-19 CWC: Sri Lanka beat Canada by 119 runs

Sri Lanka beat Canada by 196 runs in a Group ‘B’ match of the ICC Under-19s Cricket World Cup played at the Sylhet Stadium in Bangladesh today (28).

Playing in their opening game of the ICC Under-19s Cricket World Cup, Sri Lanka posted 315-6 against Canada at the innings break after electing to bat. 

Canada were bowled out for 119 runs with 64 deliveries to spare. 

Skipper Charith Asalanka top scored with a 69-ball 76 with nine boundaries as deputy skipper Sammu Ashan remained unbeaten on 74 off 61 deliveries with three fours and three sixes. 

Opener Kaveen Bandara hit 61 off 84 balls with four boundaries as Vishad Randika hit 51 off 47 deliveries with four boundaries and a six.

While Canada lost wickets at regular intervals, middle order batsman and skipper Abraash Khan played a brave knock, top scoring with an unbeaten knock of 42 runs off 71 deliveries inclusive of four boundaries. 

Opener Bhavindu Adihetti, Canada’s opener of Sri Lankan origin, made 22 after facing 33 deliveries and hitting three boundaries. 

Damitha Silva, Thilan Nimesh, Asitha Fernando and Lahiru Kumara took two wickets each while Kamindu Mendis and Wanindu Hasaranga claimed a wicket each. 

Sri Lanka will meet Afghanistan in their second Group ‘B’ match at Sylhet on Saturday (30).
