Isipathana College, one of the strong contenders to claim the Singer Schools League title, thrashed their traditional rivals Thurstan College by 48-0 to retain the Abdul Jabbar Trophy in their 46th annual Rugby encounter played at Longdon Place on Thursday (19).
The winners ruled the game all the way to score from eight tries and four conversions and led 15-0 at halftime.
Winger Ranindu Pramod scored a hat-trick and converted four tries while No.8 Sashmitha Fernando touched down twice.
Fullback Dileka Fernando, centre Sumudhu Rankothge and winger Nadeesha Chaminda also scored a try each for the winners.
With the win Isipathana's tally moves to 44 wins out of 46 against Thurstan's only victory in 2005.
The only tie had occurred in 1975.
This year Isipathana was led by centre Kushan Indunil while Thurstan was captained by Thisum Palihawadana.
The encounter for the Abdul Jabbar Trophy was inaugurated in 1967.
Last year under Omalka Gunaratna's captaincy Isipathana thrashed Thurstan by 105-0, the highest team score ever by any team in this encounter.
