Matale district secretariat and Yatawatte divisional secretariat emerged men's and women’s champions respectively at the Matale district state services volleyball tournament for men and women worked off at the Edward Park ground Matale to mark the 9th independence day celebrations.
In the men's final Matale DS team led by Lakshman Wijesekera out played Yatawatte DS team in straight sets (26-24, 25-21) while Yatawatte DS team beat Ambanganga Korale DS team also in straight sets (25-13, 25-15) in the women’s final.
Nilanthi Kumari skippered the winning team.
