Volleyball: Ports Authority and Air Force win Super League Nationals

Sri Lanka Ports Authority and Sri Lanka Air Force emerged men’s and women’s champions respectively at the ‘Munchee’ National Volleyball Championships concluded at the National Youth Service Council Indoor Stadium in Maharagama on Saturday (26).
 
In the men’s Super League final, Sri Lanka Ports Authority beat Ceylon Electricity Board by 3 sets to 1 (25-20,17-25, 21-25 and 19-25). 

Both teams possessed several national players but CEB were able to win only the first set at 25-20 but crashed in the other three sets. 

Even though CEB had several national players this is the first time that they had taken part in this competition. 

In the women’s Super League final Sri Lanka Air Force beat Casual Line SC Mawathagama easily by 3 sets to nil with the scores reading 25-12, 25-10 and 25-19. 

Sri Lanka Army bagged the third place in both Super League contests. 

In the Novices tournament finals Sarath Gems SC Ratnapura and Boyagama Siri Perakum SC emerged men’s and women’s champions. 

In the Novices men’s final Sarath Gems SC beat New Star SC Galgamuwa by 3 sets to 2 after a tough struggle. 

The scores were 21-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22 and 15-13). 

The first two sets were won by New Star and in the last three sets Sarath Gems triumphed. 

In the women’s final Boyagama Siri Perakum SC beat SL Air Force by 3 sets to nil. 

The scores were 26-24, 25-18 and 25-23. 

The third place in the men’s competition was taken by Wasana Bakers SC Horana. 

The women’s third place went to Casual Line SC Mawathagama. 

This is the fourth successive time that Sri Lanka Ports Authority emerged men’s champions in this contest. 

Sri Lanka Air Force last won the women’s title in 2014. 

The tournaments were conducted by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation and were sponsored by Ceylon Biscuits ‘Munchee’.

Best Receiver: M.T. Madurangi (Casual Line SC Mawathagama)

Best Blocker: R.M.A.P.D.P. Ranasinghe (SL Air Force)

Best Defender: S. Maduranga (SL Air Force)

Best Player of the Final: R.M.A.P.D.P. Ranasinghe (SL Air Force).

Best Receiver: Janitha Surath (SL Ports Authority)

Best Setter: N. Sanjaya (SL Ports Authority)

Best Receiver: I.V. Sagara (SL Ports Authority)

Best Attacker: H.D.R. Ranawaka (CEB)

Best Blocker: R.H.Dissanayake (SL Ports Authority)

Best Defender: A.W. Lakmal (CEB)

Best Player of the Final: Lasindu Methmal (SL Ports Authority) 

Best Performance Novices Women: 

Best Setter: M.P.S.P. Wijesinghe (Boyagama Siri Perakum SC)

Best Attacker: S.G.D.H. Senaratne (Boyagama Siri Parakuma SC)
