The annual Duruthu Maha Perahera of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya was held on Thursday. Chairman of the temple Dayaka Sabha Dr. Saman Weerasinghe was invited to place the casket on the tusker by the Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya and Chief Incumbent of the Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya, Ven. Kollupitiye Mahinda Sangharakkhitha Thera.The historic Kelaniya Duruthu Maha Perahera first commenced in 1927, due largely to the efforts of Philanthropist Don Walter Wijewardene, son of Helena Wijewardene of Sedawatte.
