Saudi national dies after emergency landing at BIA

A Saudi Airlines aircraft carrying a seriously ill passenger made an emergency landing on Friday morning at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA). The 28-year-old Saudi Arabia national was rushed to the Negombo base hospital but died before admission.

According to BIA police OIC, Chief Inspector Eric Perera, the airport doctors attended to the patient before he was taken to the hospital. CI Perera said the airport police immediately informed the Saudi Embassy in Colombo, and were awaiting instructions from the embassy.

The body is lying at the Negombo hospital mortuary. The autopsy is likely to take place tomorrow.
