Chief Minister Sivanesaturai Chandrakanthan |
A woman, weeping uncontrollably, fell at the feet of Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesaturai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan and begged him to release her abducted son when the former rebel turned politician participated at a ceremony at Kathiraveli in Vakarai yesterday, residents said.
They said the Chief Minister had come to the Thilakawathi Children’s Home to hand over two cheques when the woman approached him, crying, shouting and pleading with him to release her son who, she alleged, had been taken forcibly by the Karuna group.
Security officers of Mr. Chandrakanthan then whisked him away from the scene.
The woman said ten boys from her village had been abducted by the Karuna group and had not been heard of since. |
