Five passengers were injured when a bus plying from Colombo plunged into the Meda Ela, the main stream running through Kandy.
According to police the driver had cut into the stream when he realized that the brakes had failed. This move had apparently averted the bus crashing headlong into the police barrier near the Kandy Courts complex on William Gopallawa Mawatha and colliding with an oncoming vehicle plying from Kandy, thus minimizing the casualties.
Of the five injured among the 65 passengers in the bus, three were admitted to hospital, police said. |
