The Gampola Udapalatha Pradeshiya Sabha was dissolved last night by Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake following investigations into allegation of corruption.
The Chief Minister said a retired judge had been appointed to investigate the allegations against the Pradeshiya Sabha while the powers of the council had been vested in an assistant local government commissioner.
At the last local government elections, an independent group backed by the UPFA won the council after the UPFA nomination list was rejected. |
