Habaraduwa Hospital wards refurbished by Pears ‘Safe Hands’

Unilever Sri Lanka through its ‘Pears’ brand recently handed over the newly refurbished maternity and paediatric wards of the Habaraduwa hospital. Hospital Director Dr. R P Ajith Wickramasinghe, Ramani Samarasundera, Marketing Director – Personal Care, Nilushi Jayatileke, Brand Manager -Pears and a team of volunteers from Unilever were present on this occasion, according to a Unilever statement.

The Pears Safe Hands Project was launched on World Childrens’ Day October 1, 2002 with the intention of giving less fortunate children across the country a second chance to life. Under this project, 25 cents from the proceeds of sale of any Pears baby product is channelled towards improving the facilities afforded to children in hospitals under the recommendation of the Sri Lanka College of Paediatricians.

So far 11 hospitals have been developed with assistance from the Pears Safe Hands Fund and these hospitals are now offering improved maternal care to mothers The total cost of these projects has exceeded Rs.21 million to date.

The press release quoted Dr Wickramasinghe, as saying in his address, that Unilever had identified underdeveloped state hospitals and extended their support to uplift the lives of the community and this magnanimous gesture by a private company should be duly recognised and appreciated.
