Bank of Ceylon gets top world ranking

The Bank of Ceylon (BoC), this month, has been ranked 1,299th among the world's top banks by Bankers’ Almanac, the leading provider of reference data solutions to the global banking industry.
In a statement, the BoC said it was the first Sri Lankan bank to win such an accolade way back in 1995, when it was ranked amongst the top 200 Asian Banks, overtaking all its Sri Lankan peers. Later in 1997, it was the first Sri Lankan bank to be ranked among the top 1,000 banks in the world by the Bankers’ Almanac.

Since then it has continued its journey towards excellence consistently maintaining its country ranking of No. 1, the statement said quoting BoC Chairman Gamini Wickremasinghe. He said that with 305 branches including a full service unit in London and access to over 600 correspondent banks, the BoC has an international footprint. "The Bank of Ceylon is already very well known in many countries for its service and performance," said Dr. Wickramasinghe, adding: "The ranking in Bankers’ Almanac simply reinforces our positioning amongst the best banks in Asia and the world. We are proud of this recognition."

The bank with its extensive global network, largest asset base and management discipline has a potent mix for sound operating performance, the statement said.
