ABOUT THE COURSE
The Preliminary Certificate in Marketing is a course designed to give a basic introduction into the marketing discipline. It provides basic theoretical constructs in terms of 40 hour classroom sessions over a period of three months. It also carries a practical assignment where students translate their learnings in the classroom into real world practical applications.
The course was introduced in 1988 and has been revised many times to meet the constant requirements of the market. The programme was relaunched with improved syllabus content together with the introduction of a standard text book.
FOR WHOM
- Students interested to get an idea of what marketing as a subject/discipline is. (After O/Ls or A/Ls). This experience will help them to choose their future career moves.
- Junior Marketers who require a basic marketing qualification.
- Middle level marketing rankers who would like to get some theoretical input about marketing.
- Individuals of other professions who would like to understand what marketing is about.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Those who are 16 years and above, with a professional aspiration.
The course will require a good working knowledge of English.
EVALUATION
The students are evaluated through a written practical assignment and with a final examination. To pass the examination, a student has to be successful both at the examination and the assignment.
Assignments are structured to allow students to apply their learning to practical situations making the programme unique.
AWARD OF THE CERTIFICATE
The candidate should pass the examination and should have paid in full all dues to the Institute to be eligible to participate at the certification ceremony and collect the certificate. The Institute has the right to withdraw/ cancel any certificate if any information provided on the admission forms /certificates are found to be false.
POST PCM EDUCATION
All PCM students who manage to secure an ordinary pass and above will be subjected to a viva to enter the Graduate Diploma in Marketing (Sri Lanka) without sitting for the entrance examination.
Also, a student who manages to obtain a Merit Pass (B grade) would be exempted from the Subject "Essentials of Marketing" at the Foundation Level of the Graduate Diploma in Marketing. |
