THE GIANT LEAP
The 1975 Prudential World Cup cricket tournament could have been named the year that the Lankans had their learning curve in ‘big time’ cricket as they went into this tournament on an equal footing with the rest of the gang and learned the ABC’s of being with the big’uns.

Positive ahead of the World Cup
With national selectors naming their teams for the world cup the focus on this once in four year event is gathering momentum. India and Sri Lanka have locked horns in an absorbing four match series. The first one got washed out with unseasonal rain in Kokata just when a real contest was beginning to build up.

Lankans thumped at Andhra Stadium
A run a ball 107 by Chamara Silva was in vain as it could not prevent India from running away with the Hero Honda ODI series when they recorded an emphatic seven wicket victory with six overs to spare in the final one dayer played at the ACA VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam yesterday. The match was reduced to 47 overs due to a wet outfield with India winning the toss and opting to field.

Rajans fight back to stall Ananda
Made to follow on Dharmaraja College Kandy, thanks to a determined and entertaining fourth wicket stand of 85 runs between R.Y. Sooriyarachchi (77 in 135 balls, 10 fours and a six) and R.M.J.C. Ratnayake 68 (96 balls, 6 fours and a six), helped them total 230 for 5 against Ananda at close in their inter-school game which ended in a draw at Ananda Mawatha yesterday.
