Voices in harmony

The Western Music Unit of Visakha Vidyalay proudly presents An Evening of Harmony featuring the Senior and Junior Special Choirs and many more on Friday, April 3, from 6pm onwards at the Jeramias Dias Hall of Visakha Vidyalaya.

Past Choirs of Visakha Vidyalaya have succeeded in capturing the hearts of both the young and old. Once again it is geared to enthrall the audience with music from Billy Joel, Mike Masser and Amanda McBroom to name a few. The choir also presents for the first time acappela singing.

Western choral singing has gained prominence over the years in Visakha and has blossomed out to be a strength which Visakha treasures as one of its credentials.

Choir-in-charge – Vajira Nanayakkara – the pillar of potency in the choir, guided the choir in the trail of success and provided immense support for the stability of western music in the school. One of the most experienced and senior teachers in the school, she said, “singing in a choir inculcates good values like unity, punctuality and commitment in students. Our children have worked hard to come to this stage.”
Official Choir Trainer of the Senior Special Choir – Wille Godridge, worked assiduously towards uplifting the standards of choral Singing in the western choir. He sacrificed his much of his time to teach young eager students the mystic art of singing correctly.

Choir Leader Nilushka Perera (17) – an exceptionally talented young vocalist whose enthusiasm catalyzed the choir’s progress said “expect the unexpected,” when asked what is to be expected from the concert.

She went on to say that Visakha should be more recognized in the Western music arena. Official choir trainer of the Junior Special Choir – Natalie, had a tough task of training youngsters and has been awarded richly.

This concert is not restricted to only singing. The audience will be able to witness dances such as Jive, Cha Cha and Ballet performed by skilled young dancers of the school. The Choir of Royal College Colombo will be making a guest appearance in this concert. Melodious tunes will be heard from a guitar group performing live.

Each and every member of the choir has strived hard to make this event a huge success. Their dedication together with tremendous talent will indeed promise an evening filled pure entertainment.

Tickets are priced at Rs.250/, Rs.300/- and Rs.500/- available with all members of the choirs.
