Small miracle or small mistake

Sri Lanka Tourism’s new brand ‘Small Miracle’ may well be replaced only a month after it was revealed to the public in a high profile campaign by the industry. Speaking at the 44th AGM of the Tourist Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL) this week, newly appointed Minister of Tourism Nandana Goonetilleke said he had discussions with the President earlier in the week and hoped to change the slogan.

Mr. Goonetilleke said Sri Lanka cannot be considered small in any aspect. The Sunday Times on July 5 exclusively reported that the Tourism Ministry was reconsidering the new logo ‘Sri Lanka Small Miracle’ as some issues had been raised over the use of the word ‘small’.

An industry source said the decision to change the ‘Small Miracle’ tagline was taken by the Minister of Tourism with the consent of the President. “We need to find a solution to it and get an alternate to the word ‘small’,” he said, adding: “The industry was initially part of the decision to use the tagline ‘Small Miracle’ but not everyone liked it.” He added that changing the tagline will not affect any promotional campaigns to be launched by Sri Lanka Tourism.
