Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) welcomed its sixth batch of students for the Master's Degree programme amidst a large gathering of distinguished guests, its academia, staff and students, recently.
Altogether sixty two students enrolled for specialized courses such as the MSc in Information Technology, Information Management, Information Systems, and Master's in Enterprise Application Development. The Chief Guest at the occasion was Ranjit Fernando, Chairman, Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies (SLASSCOM) who commended SLIIT's commitment and dedication to pioneering exemplary IT education, setting standards and breeding the much needed IT professionals which Sri Lanka so requires, to be on a par with other IT progressive nations.
SLIIT's Chairman, Professor S. Karunaratne while welcoming the batch of students, revealed that SLIIT has contributed over one third of the entire IT professionals for the country worth over rupees six billion, and it is intended to increase this contribution to fifty percent of all IT professionals. He calculated that the Master's Degree Programmes at SLIIT are carefully selected and meant for professionals of different backgrounds and whose interests are differently focused.
Professor Lalith Gamage, SLIIT's Chief Executive Officer said this year's intake was the largest ever, since the introduction of the Master's Degree programmes at the Institution. The highly recognized Master's Degree programmes awarded have endowed over 450 graduates with post-graduate qualifications.
Over the years SLIIT's Master's Degree Programmes have received strong industry support in the form of Internships, Scholarships and Gold medals. This reflects an unequivocal recognition of the quality of the programmes, which highlights the importance of SLIIT's role in the global economy in nurturing professionals for industry.
SLIIT's Master's Degree programmes, introduced in 2003 have three streams. Information Technology, Information Systems and Information Management - that are designed to meet the diverse needs of professionals who wish to bring to fruition their potential and to be better equipped to face future challenges.
The Master's Degree awarded by Sheffield Hallam University, UK introduced three years ago, is a comprehensive programme in Enterprise Application Development (EAD) especially designed for IT professionals who aspire to become Software Architects. |
