Are you a parent
- Looking forward to guiding your child towards the field of IT
- Do you wish to obtain proper guidance on how to guide your child in a methodical way?
- Have you already guided your child towards IT and do you still wish to get to know whether you have done it in the correct way? Then this article will be useful for you…
- Simply an academic qualification alone will not help your child to get a good job…
Is it possible to become an IT Professional with a high salary range, by having the results of O/L and A/L, together with a certificate offered by any local education institute?
- Why is my child unable to obtain a reasonable job, although he had completed a degree from a well recognized university?
- My child is already an undergraduate in a university, studying for an IT degree. Will that enable him to obtain a high salary and a higher position?
There is no doubt that similar kinds of questions arise within you at the time of your planning for your child's future.
As the first point of guiding your child towards IT, you have to be aware of the two major types of qualifications that need to be acquired in the IT field, similar to any other field, which are Academical qualifications and Professional qualifications. Basically, any university around the globe focuses mainly on academical qualifications especially in the field of Information Technology.
There is nothing wrong in that because universities exist for the purpose of disseminating the universal knowledge in a particular field. Ethically a university has no right to focus only on one subject in the IT field, the majority of the IT subjects belonging to private companies. For instance, a university cannot focus only on Microsoft's Visual Basic subject to produce professionals in that particular subject. University education needs to cater to all other programming subjects also, equally, to create a non biased environment for all subject content providers.
Due to this situation, universities are limited to train students only for academical qualifications. Having academical qualifications alone are not sufficient to get into the first job or at least to survive. Therefore, acquiring simply an academical qualification will not help your child to get a good job. Even for an IT graduate, to obtain a good job, receive salary increments and promotions the importance of professional qualifications cannot be stressed enough.
Professional qualifications make way towards job opportunities
A professional qualification is directed on a job in a selected specific field. The qualification should be provided by a professional organization and the qualification should include three major components, which are, Theoretical knowledge, Practical skills and Real time experience. A professional qualification makes way towards job opportunities, minimizing the need for industrial experience when entering the industry.
They also facilitate minimal requirement for training, once in the industry, faster career growth, high salaried jobs, in short, recognition among the society, possibility of using the acquired titles after the name and many more. But, due to lack of knowledge on this fact, parents tend to give their children some kind of a certification normally offered by the many ordinary institutes available today islandwide, and all the same it is seen that they try to find good employment opportunities with only these certificates in hand.
Let's consider Java Technology - which is considered to be the most powerful subject, out of all the available subjects relating to IT.
Java - The world's most powerful technology
Java has become the most powerful language in the world. When considering Science, anyone would accept with any doubt that NASA is the most prestigious organization for its exceptional expertise. The Rover Mission, which used Java technology to send a space shuttle to Mars, is proof of the extent to which NASA uses Java technology. The 'Path Finder', which conducted experiments on Mars, was totally controlled from Earth, through Java technology. The CIA of America, Deutsche Telecom - the world's largest telecommunication company, Nokia mobile phones which we all know, Boeing Corporation - the experts in aircraft manufacturing, all use Java Technology. Also, ATM technology in banks, all household electrical equipment such as washing machines, cassettes, radio, televisions, and microwave ovens include microchips that use Java Technology. This is for no other reason, but because Java Technology is the most powerful language.

Enlighten your child's future with world class JAVA technology
Having a clear idea about the professionalism relevant to software development is vital. A professional software engineer should have three major components. They are
1. Methodical theoretical knowledge earned with a recognized theory certification
2. Software development skill developed through practical training
3. Experience gained through developing software for real business entities
Having a professional qualification is the solution for this situation. PCJT stands for Professional Certificate in Java Technology. It is vital for parents and students to gain complete knowledge of the advantages of PCJT professional qualification which serves this purpose.
PCJT focuses only to specialize a student for the Java subject, the world's most updated programming language and technology. PCJT syllabus will be covered in two semesters. The syllabus contains all 3 major areas which are practical, theory and experience to become a real professional in the Java J2SE knowledge area.
First semester - the practical software development project is developed with a real business client for students to get the industry placement experience and exposure. The other major component of the first semester is the architectural design project for ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) application.
Second semester - students are trained to sit for the internationally recognized examination delivered by the Sun Microsystems USA who is the owner of the Java programming language. This certification is accepted for USA Visa purposes too.
At the end of the PCJT programme, students are specialized in J2SE area in Java technology and they become professionals in Java technology.
The President of the Chamber of Chartered Java Professionals, Dr. Ishantha Siribaddana stated that specialization of a particular subject and getting professional qualifications leads to rapid career development and also for high scale salaries within a very short period of time. Further, he mentioned that this process would ultimately lead you to bring down foreign currency to Sri Lanka.
