The state’s revenue department has a series of laws and regulation to ensure that people file their tax returns on time.
However when it comes to payments that they owe taxpayers, they simply do not practise what they preach.
I have been diligently making all payments and returns on time as it is the right thing to do. People who default and defraud the country of its legitimate revenue are better looked after by the personnel at the Inland Revenue who are busy attending to private dealings than looking into legitimate claims from people like me.
The Inland Revenue Dept takes its own cool time coupled with a series of excuses which in fact law abiding and responsible citizens like me are not interested in hearing. Refunds dating far back as 2005/06 are yet payable to me.
May I ask the President who functions as the Finance Minister to please look into it and ensure greater efficiency in the Inland Revenue Department? I am sure more people will declare their earnings so long as the department can perform efficiently.
