In the story headlined “AG’s department opens Northern region office in Trincomalee” which appeared last week, the Auditor General S. Swarnajothi says he has been misquoted.
In a letter, he says para 3 of the article which quotes him as saying, “Some say that obtaining a loan from the IMF is bad for the country. But I would say that getting a loan from any international funding agency is not good for the country,” is not what he said.
He says what he said was, “Getting a loan from any international funding agency is not bad for the country but it depends on how we utilise the funds.”
