A helping hand through music

‘Care enough to bear with me’, a musical evening in aid of Samata Sarana (Help for All), an approved charity, will be held on October 4 at 6.15pm at the Lionel Wendt.

The idea of extending a helping hand to Samata Sarana, which reaches out to the poorest of the poor in the slums of Colombo North irrespective of their race and religion, was mooted by SWARA, a group of upcoming young musicians.

Starting with singing and jamming sessions whenever friends Shanaka, Nipuna, Dilukthra, Gavin and Denver got-together in their leisure time, SWARA was born. Realizing the lack of a female vocalist, they co-opted Sonaly and formed the pop choral group SWARA.

Joining Swara to raise funds through Samata Sarana will be the choirs of St. Nicholas International College, and Lyceum International School with Anne Jayamanne, Serela Athulathmudali Santos, Christeen Goonewardane and the Colombo Brass Ensemble.

Tickets will be priced at Rs. 2000/-, 1,500/-, 1000/-, 750/- and 300/-. For more information contact 0777-422721, 0777-327255, 077-4570886.

That’s how ‘Care enough to bear with me’ came about. Joining SWARA to raise funds through music for Samata Sarana will be the choirs of St. Nicholas International College and Lyceum International School with Anne Jayamanne, Serela Athulathmudali Santos, Christeen Goonewardane and the Colombo Brass Ensemble.

So if you care enough to bear with them and enjoy an evening of music while also giving of your mite to the needy men, women and children living in the slums, be at the Wendt this October!
