In the aftermath of the accidental death of Mayuri Madushika of Debarawewa, the Volley Ball event at the 35th National Games has been postponed to another date. Now the Volley Ball event which was at its quarter-final stage will be held from the beginning on a future date at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.

Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge airing his views on the incident to the Sunday Times blamed the Sports Officials of the Southern range. He said “The Sports Ministry has provided all facilities to all the athletes who are taking part in this event. It is rather strange that this girl had decided to stay with one her relations during this period”

The minister also mentioned that though all expenses for the funeral of the said athlete would be borne by the Sports Ministry, but, he still has to consider about the compensation that has been requested by the bereaved party.

Meanwhile the track events which got underway yesterday were also hampered by the inclement weather and soggy ground conditions. The noteworthy incident in the track events was Rohitha Pushpakumara beating former champion Rohan Pradeep Kumara in the 400 metres event. Rohan Pradeep Kumara took part in this event after a long lay off due to a knee injury. The final day of the Sports festival will be today.
