Elliott, Vittori guide New Zealand to final

JOHANNESBURG, Saturday – New Zealand qualified to meet Australia in the Champions Trophy Final on Monday at Centurion on Monday when they beat Pakistan by five wickets at the Wanderers yesterday.

G.D. Elliott led the run hunt with an unbeaten 75 and he was ably supported by his skipper Daniel Vettori who contributed 41.

With about 14 overs left in the game the writing was on the wall and the Pakistani supporters at the ground began to leave the ground Warlier Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first.

New Zealand handed a one-day international debut to batsman Aaron Redmond while Pakistan recalled batsman Imran Nazir and left-arm swing bowler Mohammad Aamer.

Australia beat England by nine wickets to reach the Champions Trophy final on Friday.
