Moors SC ever willing to help Prima form a team

“We will gladly help Ceylon Agro Industries Ltd., to form a cricket team and enable them to participate in mercantile tournaments”; said Moors SC President A.J.M. Muzammil when the announcement was made that Ceylon Agro Industries (Prima) will sponsor the Moors SC team at the Premier League Tournament this year.

Ceylon Agro Industries has come forward to sponsor the Moors SC team to the tune of Rs. 500.000. Associated with the announcement at Moors SC were S. Rajabdeen, Fouzul Hameed, A.H.M. Azwer, A.J.M. Muzammil, Tan Beng Chuan (General Manager Prima Group), Shun Tien Shing (General Manager) and Sajith Gunaratne (Senior Marketing Manager).

Moors SC which celebrated its Centenary last year is one of the leading cricket playing clubs in the island and the club has contributed immensely towards the promotion of cricket in Sri Lanka. Moors SC stands out as the first cricket playing club which introduced professional cricket in Sri Lanka under the chairmanship of A.J.M. Muzammil in 1983.

Ceylon Agro Industries Ltd. Has already agreed to promote cricket in Sri Lanka by sponsoring Sri Lanka under 15 cricket in collaboration with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

Rangana Herath is the captain of Moors SC and they have in their ranks players such as Dilhara Lokuhettige, Chanaka Welagedera, Suresh Perera, Hasantha Fernando and Shantha Kalawitigoda.
Moors are also being represented by under 19 national players Shameera Weerasinghe, Buweneka Ekanayake, Imesh Udyanga and Chaturanga de Silva.

The team is coached by Sri Lanka all-rounder Eric Upashantha assisted by Ruwin Peiris.
D.S de Silva, present Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket’s Interim Committee, Asantha de Mel, Chairman Selection Committee and Anusha Samaranayake, the fast bowling coach are some of the professionals who have played for Moors.
