One wild night

By Smriti Daniel

Trick or treat? I’m going to go with treat. Stigmata’s latest gig is being billed as an “evening of progressive horror” and will feature Sri Lanka’s favourite heavy metal band sharing the stage along with two other progressive metal bands - FuzMechanX and Grey Mind Domain.

“Each band has its own unique sound,” says Suresh de Silva, lead vocalist and front man for Stigmata, adding that all three bands collaborated in planning the show. Long time fans will be delighted to know that while Stigmata intend to play a set of songs from their previous albums, they’re also working on a new cover especially meant for that night. You can also count on being among the first to hear a brand new track, never performed in public before, from their much anticipated third album. Both other bands have also put together sets that reflect the theme.

The concert’s name of course is a dead giveaway. The Killing Joke is the title of Alan Moore’s iconic comic featuring the caped crusader and his twisted nemesis, the Joker. Context: The joker shoots Barbara “batgirl” Gordan in the spine, and lots of gratuitous violence and criminal insanity follow as he attempts to prove that anyone can go mad “after one bad day.” So if you’re looking for your costume for the night you already have a few good options right there. “Costume?” you ask, to which we reply, a bag of stigmata goodies awaits the person with the best costume. If you’re not in the mood to dress up though, “subtly grim” is still an option. Here’s to a wild night!

The Killing Joke will be held at the British School Auditorium from 7pm onwards on October 30.
Tickets are priced at Rs. 500/- and will be available through the bands’ myspace and facebook pages and at the gate. Sponsors for the event are The Sunday Times, The Leisure Times, ART TV, The Back Door and Z World.
