The queen of the silver screen, Malani Fonseka who was awarded the prestigious Silver Peacock at the Indian International Film Festival for her role in ‘Akasa Kusum’ (Flowers of the Sky) has been nominated for yet another award.

The experienced actress had been nominated for the Best Actress award at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards Asia Pacific Film Festival, jointly organized by the UNESCO, International Film Producers’ Congress and the CNN Television channel.
There were 210 film entries representing 43 countries at the festival and out of them 37 films from 16 countries have been nominated in different categories and the award ceremony will be held on November 26 in Australia. Malani will be competing with actresses from the films of Russia, Korea, China and Iran.
‘Akasa Kusum’ directed by Prasanna Vithanage has also been selected as the official Sri Lankan entry for the renowned Oscar Film festival-2010.
The film has already won a Special Jury Mention at the Vesoul Film Festival in France and the NETPAC Award for Best Asian Film at the third Cines del Sur Festival in Grana Spain in addition to competing at a number of festivals including Pusan, New York (Saiff), Kerala and Palm Springs.
The film is now being screened at the Regal cinema Colombo and other CEL circuit cinemas around the country. |
