The Western Music Society of Royal College presents Festival of Choirs ‘09, a musical extravaganza like no other, which includes nine of the best school choirs in Sri Lanka, with an array of tasteful and elegant musical performances that are bound to make a radiant and eloquent impression on music lovers throughout the country. Organized as an annual event by the Western Music Society of Royal College, it has the successful reputation as one of the leading choir festivals to take place in Colombo, and has always managed to please audiences through magical performances.
This year too, the Festival of Choirs will uphold its credentials with nine schools choirs performing an assortment of delightful musical numbers which are bound to amaze the audience. Royal College, Bishop’s College, Ladies’ College, Colombo International School, Visakha Vidyalaya, St. Nicholas College, St. Peter’s College, St. Benedict’s College, and Methodist’s College will be participating in the event.
With melodies ranging from musical medleys made in tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson which include most of his multi-million selling hits, to classical choir pieces presented in an assortment of languages which differ from English to Latin, this year’s Festival of Choirs is bound to present an exquisite array of harmonious performances to satisfy the indulgences of music lovers, both young and old. Alongside the individual performances made by the nine schools which would include solo performances by amazing young vocalists, there will be also combined performances made by the choirs which would allow various forms of choirs to merge together in order to perform melodies, both conventional and contemporary, allowing the music-amorous audience to witness captivating portrayals in perfect harmony and unison.
The Festival of Choirs will take place on October 30, at the Lionel Wendt, at 6.30 p.m. Tickets are priced at Rs. 800/-, Rs.650/-, Rs.500/- and Rs.350/- (balcony), and are available at the Wendt. |
