Big waves by Ananda

Ananda College made big waves yesterday when they won both the Senior and Junior categories at the National Aquatic Championships held at the Sugathadasa pool in Colombo.

Ananda won the Men’s category with 240 points with St. Joseph’s College in second place with 206 points and Trinity College Kandy following with 183 points. In the Boy’s division Ananda won easily with 192 points with Royal College and St. Joseph’s College following in second and third place with 147 points and 136 points respectively.

In the Women’s division Mahamaya College got first place with 247 points and Visakha Vidyalaya came in second with 176 points with St. Bridget’s Convent getting 115 points to come in third. The girl’s division was won by Musaeus College who got 158 points with Mahamaya College Kandy collecting 97 points to come in second and Visakha Vidyalaya getting 86 points for third place.

Best Swimmer Boy’s - Sachin Kumarajeewa (SJC), Cherantha De Silva (AC)
Best Swimmer Women’s - Miniruwani Samarakoon (GISK)
Best Swimmer Girl’s - Machiko Rahim. (OAC)
The only age group record set on the day was by Sachin Kumarajeewa of St. Joseph’s College who broke the Under-14 record for the 200m Freestyle with a time of 2.12.65.
