SSC was the only club from Sri Lanka to be invited to this contest and the organizers Singapore CC are now on the verge visiting Sri Lanka. Avishka is still a good cricketer maybe he is a little slow on the field. These sentiments were expressed by Samantha Dodanwela, a SSC selector, who was on tour to Singapore.

Melbourne CC from Australia, Gulong CC from Hong Kong, the Malaysian national team, Madras CC and Singapore CC had taken part in the tournament. “SSC showed their superiority in every sphere and won the contest comprehensively defeating Malaysian CC in the final,” emphasized Dodanwela.

Singapore CC is planning to stage this contest on an annual basis. The SSC team had not been able to take their full contingent due to their players having national duties. Nevertheless the side had performed with great distinction and had won the hearts of all cricket lovers with their performances on and off the field.

The SSC team had been managed by Michael De Zoysa and had Mahinda Halangoda, the Thomian hero in the Centenary game against Royal, as a selector as well.

Dodanwela had words of praise for both Michael De Zoysa, a former Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket and a die-hard SSC stalwart who is very keen to see that SSC does well at cricket.

Samantha Dodanwela a former Trinity College vice captain who represented SSC for almost a decade and also being a national poolist said the win in Singapore would enable Sri Lanka Cruicket officials to keep a close watch on these young cricketers who could fit into the national side in the future. He also went on to say that they will ensure to defend the trophy next year as well.

The SSC team to Singapore: Avishka Gunawardene, Dimuth Karunaratne, Naveen Perera, Hans Fernando, Shalika Karunanayake, Sachithra Senanayake, Krishal Magage, Milan Fernando, Chathupama Gunasinghe, Rayan Kern, S. Sumathipala, S. Guruge and K. Weerasinghe.
