Suspected UPFA supporters armed with clubs and stones disrupted a felicitation ceremony last evening, to mark the appointment of UNP MP Ravi Karunanyaka as the Colombo North party organizer.
A UPFA provincial council member’s supporters pelted stones during the meeting at Thotalanga, Grandpass as Mr. Karunanayake started addressing those present, former UNP Muncipal Council member Gunasiri Silva told the Sunday Times.
He alleged that power supply too had been cutoff to the area and vehicle batteries were used to activate the public address system.
He said about 40 rival supporters who had mingled with the crowd had carried out the attack. |
