Weather conditions will remain unstable in the next couple of weeks, as the inter-monsoonal period draws to a close, in the last days of November or in early December, says the Meteorological Department.
Nandalal Pieris of the Met Department says atmospheric disturbances could result in strong winds, heavy localised showers, thunderstorms and even cyclones. “Heavy rains in the evenings are usual during this period, but because of atmospheric disturbances, we are experiencing rain day and night, accompanied by lightning,” he said.
Although bad weather conditions in the past few days are abating, more rains and winds may be experienced in the next few days.
Areas subject to some of the heaviest rains this week included Colombo, Ratmalana, Katunayake, Puttalam, Galle, Matara, Hiniduma, Mannar, and Katugastota, in the Kandy district.
The public is advised to take precautions against lightning. |
