Bread-winners puzzled

Using the catchy phrase “Bread price down”, the state went to town in the print and electronic media on December 23 to announce that bread had come down in price by Rs. 3 per loaf. But the state failed to tell the public what the specified weight of a loaf of bread should be. Is the state conniving with the bakery owners to cheat the public?

Underweight bread – between 325 and 400 grams – is being sold openly in all markets, while the specified weight for a loaf of bread is 450 grams.

The authorities should take immediate action to correct this anomaly.
