Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Certificate in Conversational Tamil

Ladies' College Department of Vocational Studies (LCDVS) has been training teachers, working persons and school leavers since 1981.

The Pre-school Teacher Training course is a well recognized full time course that has been conducted for over 25 years. Due to the demand, a shorter course was introduced in 2007. This course is of four months duration and is conducted during the week ends.

An Early Childhood Education Course is for teachers, aspiring teachers and even parents who are looking at understanding the young child's needs. This course will guide participants to help children develop skills using innovative methods that will bring out the creativity of the child. It will also help to develop the understanding of the young child and build up skills in methodology in guiding him at home or in school.

Among the modules taught are -

  • Child Development
  • Work plans
  • Writing curriculum and syllabus plans
  • Teaching strategies - methodologies and discipline models
  • Parents as partners
  • Class and time management
  • Effective report writing
  • Creating Teacher Aids

LCDVS has always commenced courses that cater to national needs. In this context, last year a Conversational Tamil course was developed. Experienced lecturers successfully conducted this Course for three private sector companies.

They were the National Development Bank, Nations Trust Bank and DIMO. This same course is now being conducted at LCDVS for individuals interested in learning to speak Tamil. By the end of this course the participant will be able to speak, read and write the Tamil language effectively. The Institute awards certificates to those who follow these courses.
