Sri Lanka Tea or better known as Ceylon Tea had been promoted to a world class product by British Colonial Rulers who introduced tea to Sri Lanka by advertising about Ceylon Tea first in their colonial domains.
Anil Cooke, Chairman, Sri Lanka Tea Brokers' Association, elaborated on how the British introduced tea plantation to Sri Lanka and how they have promoted it to be world famous.
He said that abter the British, the Sri Lankan Tea Industry has been able to put 'Ceylon Tea' into the best slot in the Global Tea Market. He made these views at the Awards Ceremony of the Ceylon Speciality Tea of the Year - Japan 2010 held in Colombo last week, making a presentation on 'Ceylon Tea'.
As part of a programme to promote straight line Garden Marks and Single Origin Estate teas of Sri Lanka, the "Ceylon Speciality Estate Teas of the Year" competition was recently launched in Japan by the Sri Lanka Tea Board and the private sector tea trade in consultation with the Japan Tea Association.
At the Colombo ceremony these presentations won in Japan were re-awarded.

Guest said that the promotional competition held in Japan has enhanced the favour of Ceylon Tea to the forefront of the global tea industry and in this age of globalization this type of competition would enable continuous development to high quality tea.
Among the Gold winners in Japan are: Lovers Leap (Pedro) - Nuwara Eliya Region; Kirkoswald - Dimbula Region; Shawlands - Uva Region; Delmar - Uda Pussellawa Region; Talangaha - Ruhuna Region; Avissawella - Sabagamuwa Region; Craighead - Kandy Region and Lumbini - Innovative Category. |
