Six new bank branches will be opened in the Northern Province on June 7 to facilitate economic activities in the area, the Central Bank (CB) said. The People’s Bank is due to open three new branches in Kilinochchi, Mankulam and Paranthan while the Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC and Seylan Bank PLC are due to open one branch each in Kilinochchi. The Nations Trust Bank PLC will open a branch in Jaffna. Accordingly, three new bank branches will be opened in Kilinochchi and one each in Paranthan, Mankulam and Jaffna.

Necessary approvals of the CB have also been granted for further new bank branches in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, in the next few months, the CB said.
