Major shipping lines and corporates have raised concerns over delays at the Colombo Port, saying this situation has been escalating in the past two months. “Berthing times were not granted to some vessels of shipping lines at the Colombo Port, which is holding up our operations,” a shipping line official said.
However the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) denied that there’s congestion.
“We had a congestion from June 1 to June 15, but now there’s no congestion,” SLPA Chairman P.B. Wickrema told the Business Times.
The official said that delays at the Port were mainly due to the breakdown in the Jaya Container Terminal and the South Asia Gateway Terminal. |
